In
the 1940s and 50s, Cabo San Lucas first saw modern development
when millionaires built their luxury vacation homes along the cliffs
that
towered above the magnificent, crystal clear bays and coves of
the Pacific in the area now known as the Pedregal. Luxury
resorts followed in the 1960's as Cabo San Lucas became a bustling
town with
specialty
shops, Baja nightlife and recreational activities. Cabo San Lucas is on the southernmost tip of the 1,000 mile long Baja Peninsula, west of mainland Mexico, and just below San Diego and Southern California. The Sea of Cortez borders Cabo on the east with the Pacific Ocean on the west. The region’s geography is a dynamic mix of unspoiled desert landscape, white sand beaches and dramatic outcroppings of rock formations. "El Arco" the distinctive rock arch that sits at the tip of Land’s End, Los Cabos’ most famous geographic landmark, where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. The
entire Los Cabos area has many beautiful beaches for swimming, snorkeling
and diving. From San José del Cabo to Cabo San Lucas there
are twenty main beaches to explore.
With more than 150 flights landing at San José del Cabo International Airport every week, regularly scheduled transportation services currently include: American Airlines, Continental Airlines, Alaska Airlines, America West, Mexicana, Aero Mexico, Aero California, Delta Airlines, among others. Private planes and charters also use the San José facilities, as well as the new private Cabo Airport, which is just minutes from downtown Cabo San Lucas. Most East Coast travelers will connect to their Los Cabos flight through Atlanta, Dallas, and Houston. While travelers on the West Coast have a choice of direct flight service from several destination gateways including Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Denver, Chicago and Vancouver.
